Is tado° compatible with my heating system?

The Wireless Smart Thermostat X is suitable for boilers or heat pumps that work with Relay or OpenTherm -- most of them do. You can also use the included Programmer to manage your hot water schedules if your gas boiler or heat pump is connected to a hot water cylinder. Can I install tado° on my own?

You can easily install tado° devices yourself, even if you're offline. The app has step-by-step instructions, customised to your heating system.

The Programmer connects directly to your boiler or heat pump and works as a Thread Border Router to connect tado° to the internet.

I'm buying tado° for the first time. Do I need a Bridge X?

No, you don't need a Bridge X with the Wireless Smart Thermostat X Starter Kit. The included Programmer already works as a Thread Border Router to connect tado° to the internet. However, you can buy an additional Bridge X to use as a signal amplifier if you have a larger home.

I already have tado° V3+ installed. Is this compatible with tado° X?

If you already have tado° V3+ devices in your home, simply expand them with the V3+ Add-ons. tado° X products are not compatible with tado° V3+.

Can I control tado° using my smart assistant?

You can control all tado° devices easily using Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and Apple Home.

Can I install tado° in my bathroom?

Yes, tado° X is suitable for installation in wet areas.

Can I return tado°?

Will I have to replace the batteries?

The Wireless Smart Thermostat X is equipped with 3 AAA batteries. tado° reminds you to replace them well in advance when the battery power is running low.

It works but problems with wifi connection

The instructions (via QR code) are ok to follow if the process works, a nightmare if the process doesn’t. It would be good to have access to documentation on the whole process, not just step by step on your phone. The wireless receiver was installed and connected fine. The temperature sensor (aka thermostat) would not connect to my mesh wifi system. I spent 3 hours in total on this, around 2 hours on email to Tado support who were very polite and professional but could not solve the problem until I rebooted the mesh node nearest the receiver. Also not impressed with the subscription cost for Auto-assist.

Update from Nest to Tado

We have had to change our Nest thermostat which has been amazing for years as they are stopping support later in the year.

The installation of the new Tado was quite easy from the original Nest wiring. It connected easily and is working very well.

It does not feel such a quality product as the Nest and the app is not as user friendly either. Previously we had two homes controlled with Nest which is not possible with Tado. The black thermostat is not very attractive and operates on batteries rather than a wired connection previously.

However Tado does the job and it works !

My Nest replacement

I bought the tado thermostat because Google will no longer support my nest thermostat from October. What my thoughts are, it was very easy to install and seems to work well although I would like to see a history of how many hours my heating is on each day. The reason I gave 4* is I disagree with the subscription to have full app usage when you pay for a premium product, I never had to pay extra with Nest. Time will tell if it meets my expectations as a replacement but hopefully it will work out. I will not be paying the extra subscription charge unless I can see I need for it.
